A hostel that gets all the important stuff right - clean, comfortable beds, plugs by the bed (with EU plugs!), good AC, shower with good pressure etc. Very tasty breakfast at the Stone Town Café as well, with the best coffee I’ve had in Tanzania.
But what really makes the place stand out is Simone - the human embodiment of “going above and beyond”. I was in Dar es Salaam for business and decided to hop over to Zanzibar for a weekend, without any real plans. Simone not only gave fantastic recommendations for how to spend the weekend, he even organised a scooter for me to rent and the Zanzibar driving permit. And all with a smile and great humour!

Our stay at Stone Town House will be definitely be remembered as one of our best ones in Zanzibar. We booked the triple bed private bedroom with a shared bathroom. The room was clean, the air-conditioning worked perfect, each bed had a socket, a curtain for privacy and fresh towels. There was ample space in the room for our suitcases and the bathrooms were well maintained. Ten points for Mr. Simon, the gentleman managing the hotel who went out of his way to make us feel comfortable, offered us a large complimentary water bottle and gave us lovely handmade soaps upon leaving. The location is ideal and safe which was a plus point for an all girls group.

2. The lady owner was very friendly, kind, and helpful. She even assisted us to withdraw money as we had forgotten our visa cards

4. Despite the building being old, just like 90% of the other facilities in Stone town, it has been incredibly renovated and maintained as if it's a new building

In the 4-person female dorm (which is more like a 2-person dorm connected to another 2-person dorm) the airconditioning was not working in the rear half of the room. Unfortunately it couldn't be fixed.
But as it wasn't high season, it was no problem to switch beds after one night, to the other (cooler :-)) half of the room.

Our room was very very tiny. As I saw another room within this hotel, I guess it was just our room which was this tiny. For two people and their luggage sometimes difficult. However for our 3 days stay it was ok.

Stone Town House exceeded my expectations. I booked a bed in a four bedded dorm and I was taken aback at the spaciousness of the room which was air-conditioned and had 2 fans. The beds were tidied up daily by the housekeeping staff. The shared baths and toilets were spotlessly clean. The additional bonus was having a tea and coffee trolley outside the room.
Aishah who works there as a receptionist is a gem of a person... helpful, kind and soft spoken. The other staff there are equally very polite.

They also set us up with a driver with really good prices to go to the other parts of the island. Room was clean and had everything we wanted and needed.

The owner is the sweetest! It was a pleasure to have known him and talked to him. Our stay was great! We are a family of 4, so we had a big room. There were 3 beds, a sitting area, 2 toilets/ showers. It was perfect for us. There are also 2 ceiling fans and air conditioning in the room. The beds are really comfortable. We really enjoyed our stay in StoneTown and discovered many amazing and surprising things. StoneTown House is a great place to walk around the city. The only thing for you to know (it is mentioned in the description), there is no restaurant in the hotel. However, there are many very close to the hotel. Breakfast not included - Stone town cafe provided nice options but more expensive if you use the voucher provided by the hostel.

Very rustic, but clean.
Hired 2 rooms, with private showers.
Both rooms were good. The double bed room was small but sufficient.

Toilets clean, showers with hot water.
Only negative were the hard beds and even harder pillows.

The staff are lovely and the location is very central. We were disappointed in the extremely small size of the room we originally built, but fortunately the family room was free and we could upgrade for 20 usd a night - and that room was incredible! spacious, great air-conditioning and fans, two assists and toilets - making for an excellent stay.
Not all electrical sockets and light switches work, and there's nothing with which to scrape the water in the showers, making for a bit of a messy bathroom experience.

The location is very convenient if you want to walk around the town. The staff was kind and helpful. There is free coffee and tea available.
The room was inconvenient (e.g. there is no where to hang a wet towel). Our sheets were stained while the bathroom was not cleaned for as long as we stayed (one and a half day).

I loved this hostel. It was so quiet and in an amazing location. The bed was very comfortable and curtains gave sense of privacy. I liked that the mosquito net was clean and without holes. The staff was very helpful, there was internet with good speed, coffee and tea and a nice rest area.
The only problem were the doors that could not be closed quietly.

These are basic accommodations within walking distance to sights in Stone Town. Staff was available in the middle of the night when we arrived and left. Accommodations were clean and met our expectations. The shared bathroom was clean, had hot and cold water, and electricity. Bring your own bottled water.
No where to hang anything other than over the bedrails.

The location is very good - on a quiet side street, but very close to Mercury House. The staff was really friendly and helpful; we stayed there twice, in the beginning and at the end of our stay on the island, before getting to the airport, which they also helped with (they got us a taxi for 3.30am). Clean rooms, big bathrooms, AC, mosquito net.
The rooms are not super bright but it's really just the way the buildings are there. There were power cuts frequently, but again - that's all over the island, so get ready for that.
