The room was downstairs so there was a lot of noise during the night from within and outside.
The first day there was no warm water but when we reported it was fixed immediately. There is no phone in the hotel reception so when we called to check location nobody picked up and we got lost. It’s important to have a phone at the reception to help visitors and customers get hold of the hotel for any assistance they need

The room we stayed is on the ground floor and it is next to the main street and hotel entrance. It is quite noise but it is Ok for us as we have been too tired and we have fall into sleep quickly. The facility is bit old but it is also OK for the money we have paid for.

Everything could be made better if some thoughts on Basic Amenities can be put in by the owner.
The hotel is missing the most Basic Amenities such as toiletries, hot water, aircon, and some good breakfast arrangement which would definitely improve the occupancy ratings. The dilapidated condition of doors and windows that never close, rusted showers, no clothe hanger, even in bathroom to hang bathrobe/ towels, no wardrobe in the room -- Basically there was NOTHING in the room except a squeeky cot and mattress with a thin namesake cloth bedsheet to cover.

zLife is located less than 15 min walking from the ferry terminal so it's perfect for an easy start on Zanzibar.
It's in the middle of the stonetone and has a lot of nice shops and restaurants around.
The place itself is beautiful, the staff is helpful with organizing transport/city tour (a little bit pricy though).
We enjoyed the breakfast.
Defenitly a great value for the money! :)

the second guy on duty had no people skills and was rude. The bathroom looks like it's never get properly cleaned. From the taps with years of soap scum build up to the shower - really nasty. Room snmlled very moldy when we first got there ( it's an old building ilI can understand). We took a nap and went to the market, when we came back the room smelled like a toilet drain. Potential because it has a permanent open window to a close alley where water keeps flowing out of the building, it was so bad we could not stay in the room, no ventilation help with the smell - defos not healthy. Stains on the bedding and Towels. We wasted our money with that booking.

Property offers more than standard 2 star, very clean, nice garden patio in between floors as it is superb for smokers and shaded, Abbu welcomed us exceptionally, realized what we booked is not for us and offered option on the spot before going to room. The location is perfect. Walking distance to the the waterfront and many restaurants. The staff is incredibly friendly and helpful. The lady who makes breakfast is so so kind and the guy at reception is always so helpful. I really appreciate the staff and their work ethic. The pillows in the room I got were very comfortable and so soft.
The room is NOT like in the pictures. Completely different. The bathroom has no window and always smells so stuffed. The beds aren’t very comfortable, almost hard. The breakfast menu is HORRIBLE. You get only bread and eggs, no fruit juice ,just water or boiled hibiscus. Although there’s tea and coffee. Also some fruits like watermelon and bananas. But that’s it, every day.

The owner needs to do some serious caretaking. The toilet seat had bad scratches and was brown, it was such a nightmare to use the ablution facilities.

I had to sanitize the entire space, just thinking about it makes me sickly.
The bed sheet had a tear. The facade and entrance of the building is a nice welcome and that's where it ends. I can't imagine what the shared bathroom looks like.

avoid the first room on the ground floor by the entrance. So minimalistic it was very uncomfortable: nowhere to hang your clothes or towels, walls are chalky so anything resting/rubbing on it gets dirty, bathroom doesn't drain, and the main issue is the complete lack of airflow and no ac, so the room was insanely hot at night (impossible for me to sleep, despite a ceiling fan on at full tilt). It's a shame because with a few minimal adjustments this room could be made far more comfortable. Maybe the other rooms are better. But otherwise staff was helpfull they booked our taxi for the next day. Probably worth the price for a quick stay as location is great, room itself was clean (big up to the cleaning lady) and safe street

The rooms could have really benefited from either screens on the windows, bed nets, or at least a hook to hang your own bed net. We brought our own, but there was nowhere to hang it. Because there was no way to keep the mosquitos out, we had to sleep with the windows closed, which was very hot and stuffy, and the we still got some bites in the night. This was the only place we stayed in Zanzibar without any screens or nets. Also, some hooks to hang wet towels inside would be nice. Otherwise, the place was great, and a very good value.

The location is phenomenal, right in the heart of stone town and 5 minutes walk to the beach or the souk. Also, all the public transport that moved around the island are near the souk, great access to transport. The staff are really friendly, helpful and answered any questions you had. Definitely good people.
The WiFi worked well, the place is well maintained and facilities (toilet showers, common room) were in good condition. The place felt very safe and the dorms were excellent. They are clean, had A/C or a strong fan so it kept you cool and was a very comfortable sleep.
Maybe the price, however, if this is the market rate for a dorm on the island then I have no complaints.

The architecture was very cool and interesting. The rooms were priced at an affordable rate relative to other nearby hotels. The owner (although off-site) was flexible in rearranging one of the nights that we booked.
The roofless courtyard was not ideal for heavy rain season, and the rooms that we stayed in had leaks leaving pools of water. The biggest problem was that we arrived at our room late at night only to find the room without a mosquito net, a blanket, soap, and shoes for the shower, unlike most hostels we have stayed in. We received a mosquito net on our second night, but then the bed frame broke while sitting (softly) on the bed exposing sharp, rusty nails and broken wood. We had to move rooms in the middle of the night to a room that was even farther from our original request (3 small twin beds instead of the deluxe double that we booked). Of course, none of these beds had mosquito nets either, and the poorly cleaned bathroom was filled with dozens of mosquitos. As a result, we had to keep the bathroom door closed and keep multiple fans going in the bedroom to increase airflow and prevent mosquitos from biting us at night (malaria is a high risk in this area, and my partner was not taking antimalarials at the time). Breakfast was included, but had very limited and low quality options (e.g., old fruit, spoiled jam, burnt pancakes, etc.). The owner was hard to contact off-site, the main host was not very accommodating to our complaints, and the late-night host/guard didn't speak much English. We later realized that the hotel-employed taxi drivers also charged 25-50% more than other taxi drivers in the area, so we would recommend future guests to find and negotiate your own transport outside of hotel connections.

It is located within walking distance of everything. The hotel is in a historical building and it was quite beautiful. The breakfast was good and the staff were all friendly.

The location is convenient and within walking distance to key attractions in Stone Town. The staff were polite and friendly, and check-in was handled smoothly.
The overall condition of the room and facilities was disappointing. The bed was made from wooden crates and the sheets had holes, which didn’t feel comfortable or welcoming. The bathroom was not clean, especially the toilet, which had visible stains. The view from the room overlooked a rundown area with broken structures and rubbish, which was very unpleasant. Overall, the place felt neglected and did not meet the expectations based on the photos online.

The location was good. It was easy to get around, and everything was relatively close, including quick access to the hostel. For me, the location was the main positive aspect of the stay.
I’m sorry to say that there were several things I didn’t enjoy. First of all, it didn’t really feel like a hostel, but more like a hotel, which was not what I expected. My room did not have air conditioning, so it was often very warm. There were also very few windows, which made it difficult to ventilate the room, and it felt quite dark most of the time.
The bed was squeaky, and the mosquito net had many holes. Overall, the room was not very comfortable. I also found the staff to be not particularly friendly. While it was possible to ask questions, it often felt like they were not very motivated, which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. The breakfast staff, however, was very friendly.
The internet connection in the room did not work properly. There was almost no mobile reception, and the Wi-Fi signal was very weak and unstable, depending on where you stood in the room.
Breakfast was very simple and repetitive, with little variation, so expectations should be kept low.
Overall, I would say it’s fine for one or two nights, but I wouldn’t recommend staying longer than that.

Very good location in Stone Town, Stayes 1 night after we arrived with the ferry and everything is walkable. Friendly stuff good breakfast.
We could store some luggage for 4 days for just a little fee.
The room was quite small and also a bit noisy (we were very close to the reception) .

The location is right at the center of Stone Town.
The toilet doesn't have toilet paper nor soap for the shower. I unfortunately didn't check if there's air conditioning when booking and there's none and it was so hot.

The location is great. You’re right next to the park and all the important spots, which is actually why I decided to book this hotel again.
The room was extremely small. There wasn’t even proper space for a suitcase. Things were falling from the ceiling, and in the bathroom there was some kind of brown liquid dripping from above as well. Overall, the internet was also frustrating. It was okay for getting a bit of work done, but not really good, and you couldn’t work in the room next to the kitchen. This meant that when it rained, there was basically nowhere to work.
Unfortunately, the staff wasn’t very friendly either. I was offered a laundry service for 15k, but the clothes were neither dried nor ironed... they were just put in the washing machine and then handed back to me wet.
My partner also complained that the communication was only directed at me. They didn’t communicate with him at all only with me, what shouldnt be, if you work at the reception.
Overall, it was quite disappointing, and I wouldn’t book it again.
