I had a wonderful stay at the Aurelia hotel during my time in Stone Town. In particular, I enjoyed the central location in the heart of Stone Town, the cleanliness and comfort of the rooms, the delicious breakfast prepared by the kind and welcoming staff. In addition to that, I had a change of plans to my original travel, and the hotel was extremely accommodating of this change, even giving me further travel suggestions and connecting me with the owner of the hotel in expeditious fashion. I’m very appreciative of their helpful and understanding response. On top of that, I was able to learn more about the family roots of this exceptional hotel, which added a personal touch to my stay.
I had a positive experience. As mentioned, my issue was handled swiftly and thoroughly, so I have no complaints.

The room was very spacious, with AC and a fan, the shower was very good and the bed was quite comfy and had a moskito net as in the pictures.
The stairs had irregular steps, so a few of them were quite high. It was not a problem for us, but it's worth noting if you have any restrictions in that regard.
We stayed in the top floor, so we could hear the birds walking on the roof from very early on in the morning, which bothered my wife who has a light sleep. If you are like me and don't wake up easily, hakuna matata.
Ps. We were awakened by the prayer call at 5:20am, but I guess that would also happen anywhere else in town.

I had a comfortable experience at Aurelia. The hotel is located on the perimeter of Stone Town so it's not too difficult to find or get to with luggages as the car can drive there. The decors are cool and the room is spacious and clean.
The only downside is the bathroom. Since the bathroom has no window, it lacks air circulation thus giving a funky smell. I highly the management to use air refresher or something to get rid of the smell.

They have staff available 24/7, they arranged transfers from the airport aswell as messaging to make sure everything was ok.

The staff especially Hussein and Tahera go out of their way to make sure that you’re happy and have everything you need. The tourist shop next door was also great for prices.
When you stay in Stone Town don’t expect it to be peaceful and quiet as it’s in a very built up area. The rooms are all accessed via steep stairs so keep that in mind if you have mobility issues. There were some issues with payment but they’re working hard to resolve theses and also were really patient while we did.

The room is very noisy. You can hear every sound of the street, so it feels like the windows are open. The guy at the reception is extremely slow. We wanted the Wi-Fi and it took him 45 minutes to install this on our phone. The room smelled like mold. We cancelled the rest of our nights because Stone Town is not a touristic spot, and therefore not for us. We could only pay in cash for the first night without a receipt. After asking for a receipt, we received it, but paying in cash without a receipt felt very sketchy, so please pay attention to this.

The journey was terrible! We ordered a taxi for pick up in advance from the hotel to the airport. We waited 45 minutes for this driver at the airport who never showed up. Afterwards the hotel told us that the driver was unable to come - we were not given any information about this. When we arrived at the hotel with the other taxi we ordered at the airport (at 11 pm), the hotel was completely closed and we couldn't get in. However, the hotel knew from our taxi order that we would be arriving late. So we (two young backpackers) were standing on the street and nobody were there to open the door. After 15 minutes of loud shouting and knocking, someone came who was totally unfriendly because we had woken him up.
It was also very stuffy in the room as you couldn't open any windows. Okay for 2 nights but otherwise never again. Sorry..

You can not drive a car in front of the hotel, since it is in a small alley. They help you with luggage though. Good location, once you find the hotel.
We had an early flight, so I contacted the property before staying there and asked for breakfast boxes to take away. They said no problem, they would prepare boxes for us. I also talked to the receptionist the night before and he wrote down the breakfast we ordered. The next morning nothing was prepared and we didn’t get any breakfast boxes. I contacted the property afterwards and they were sorry for the inconvenience, and promised me a partial refund. Haven’t received any refunds.

On the first day, in the morning we did not have water for about 20 min which was not a big deal for us because we did not have any plans, but if we did have plans that would have been an issue. Breakfast was ok, very small and not a lot of choice, sometimes you have to ask for stuff (like milk or butter) as it is not displayed.

Fantastic location little hidden in the less touristy street of the old Stone Town, Aurelia is set in an atmospheric old building. We had a charming and spacious room on the top floor with balcony overlooking the rooftops. You can hear people on the street and the mosque prayers which add the experience. The four poster bed was huge and comfortable and we slept well. Big bathroom and the cold water was sufficient. Friendly staff and breakfast included in the price. All in all good value. We’d stay again, thank you!
The air conditioning unit was leaking water onto the floor. But we used the fan only at night, which is more comfortable anyway.

Great location, very central. It's a really interesting building, loads of history. Lovely host, very informative. There was a problem with the air-conditioning unit in our room, and they changed our room instantly, with no question.
Nice breakfast, not the biggest of choices, but what we had was very nice.

Hussein at the reception was nice and helped us booking transfer on our way out. The room was good size and the bed confortable. Breakfast was simple but OK. In general, a good value for money
Not in the best area of Stone Town, but with easy access to shops and restaurants. Bathroom outdated. Some noise from the street below.
