This is an authentic and beautifully restored merchant house in Stone Town, transformed into a truly special hotel. We were generously upgraded to the Kate Room as a honeymoon gift, along with complimentary champagne and fresh fruit - a thoughtful and heartfelt gesture from the hotel management. The room itself was spacious, featuring two balconies and a wonderful atmosphere that made our stay feel even more memorable. also dined at the Secret Garden, where the food was very good - easily one of the best meals we had in the country - enjoyed in a beautifully relaxed atmosphere.

One thing to be aware of is that there are several mosques very close to the property - including one directly opposite the hotel - and the early morning call to prayer around 5:15 can easily wake you up.

This is a really beautiful hotel within a historic building. The rooms are huge and each one decorated differently and with great care to transport the guest back in time (but with comfort). After the rooms are tidied between guests they leave the doors open so its possible to see how each room has been decorated - making the place like a museum! The rooms were also very comfortable with lots of space to relax. The location of the hotel is also superb, although Stone Town is small enough to get round where ever you are. We did have an issue with the water while there, but some issues seem expected in such an old building. The staff dealt with the problems well and were extremely sorry and accommodating. Hence, I still believe the hotel is perfect!

It looks like you're living in a sultan palace, a bit decayed over the years, but that's the whole point. And they have a great restaurant the secret garden! Such a delightful hotel. The staff was also so helpful, we had a very early checkout (3:30am) and they offered us coffee and fruits for breakfast. A special thank you to the manager, Russell, who went way out of his way to provide us with two yoga mats ?.
